The ADT AWARE Program Offers Protection for Abused Women
For more than 16 years ADT Security Services has provided a life-saving program, designed to address domestic violence. The ADT AWARE program, which stands for Abused Women’s Active Respond Emergency, is available in more than 160 communities across the United States. AWARE has been praised for saving the lives of 28 domestic abuse victims, in addition to providing countless others with the peace of mind needed to leave an abusive partner.
The ADT AWARE program is a combined effort that utilizes ADT Security Services, local law enforcement agencies, battered women’s shelters and prosecutor’s offices. The aforementioned community groups are responsible for selecting AWARE participants. Upon selection, ADT will donate and professionally install electronic security equipment in the home of the domestic violence victim.
In addition to the newly installed monitoring system, a hold-up alarm pendant will be provided. The ADT hold-up alarm pendant can be worn, or carried inside the home. In the case of an impending attack, the victim can push the button on the pendant. An instant, discrete and silent notification will be sent to ADT. The proper authorities will be immediately alerted to the danger. Community groups participating in the AWARE program have agreed to prioritize AWARE alarm requests.
As mentioned above, all equipment, installation and monitoring for the AWARE system will be donated by ADT. Neither the victim nor the community will be charged for the services. Participating community groups are asked to prioritize victims according to highest level of risk for violent attack.
The criteria require the victim:
- Be in impending danger of attack,
- Have a restraining order against the batterer
- Be willing to testify against the abuser in a court of law if he/she is arrested in conjunction with the crime.
