ADT Security's Sensormatic Ultra

26 March, 2009

On March 26, ADT announced that its exit anti-theft system, Sensormatic Ultra, now operates in more than 75,000 locations across the world. Among the facilities to utilize this technology is Switzerland-based Nestle Group’s Nespresso.

After just two years, ADT managed to expand its Sensormatic Ultra installations to 75,000 worldwide. The popularity of this system increased rapidly due to its modern design, wide selection of models in various formats, and efficient Ultra Max acousto-magnetic anti-theft technology. Among the international retailers to utilize ADT Security’s Sensormatic Ultra is Nespresso, operating more than 120 locations across the globe.

Nespresso, the fastest growing division of the Nestle group, sells high-end coffee machines and accessories, in addition to premium coffee blends. To protect sophisticated equipment and valuable products, the company formerly employed Radio Frequency (RF) systems in various stores. Nespresso values the preservation of its boutique’s aesthetics, and has opted to use the Sensormatic Ultra Exit AM system instead.

"We needed an EAS solution that could offer wide exit protection in a stylish design that blended into our unique cafe environment," a Nespresso spokesperson stated. "Another key criterion was a hard tag capable of protecting our high-end coffee machines and accessories. Also a significant consideration is our popular assortment of cookies and chocolates openly displayed for our guests' convenience. This challenge required a labeling solution that not only was small enough to fit inside compact products without covering the brand or content information, but also would be detected in and around the metallic packaging of these products. In addition to all of the important benefits Ultra Exit offered, we had the choice of a concealed system that was perfect for one of our stores in Spain."

Inditex, Marionnaud, Grupo Cortefiel, and Mango are among leading international retailers to utilize Sensormatic.

ADT Security Offers Safety Tips: Using an ATM

9 March, 2009

Providing a convenient service to consumers, ATMs allow for the withdrawal of funds anytime, day or night. The unsupervised, public nature of ATMs has the tendency to attract robbers looking for an easy target. The average loss from an ATM robbery is between $100 and $200, according to figures provided by the U.S. Department of Justice. In addition, approximately 15% of robbery victims are injured in the process.

According to the Vice President of ADT Security Services, Hank Monaco, it is possible to reduce the chances of becoming the victim of an ATM robbery.

"Anytime cash is readily available, you will find criminals looking to take advantage, ATMs are no exception," Monaco stated. "But by being aware and using common sense you should be able to conduct your business safely."

According to a recent study, most Americans between the ages of 25 and 49 use an ATM approximately eight times each month. In light of this study, ADT has compiled several safety tips to be observed by all ATM customers.

  • Be aware of your environment. Ensure that the area surrounding the ATM is well-lit and visible.
  • If you see suspicious individuals near the ATM, find another location or return later.
  • Use ATMs during the day when possible, as most robberies occur at night. The riskiest time to withdraw money from an ATM is between midnight and 4 a.m.
  • Avoid using an ATM alone. Try to bring a friend, or use the ATM when others are near, as most incidents occur when an individual is alone.
  • Make the transaction as quickly as possible, limiting the chance of an altercation.
  • Do not withdraw large quantities of money. Place all cash in your wallet immediately upon withdrawal.

"Security experts emphasize that you should never fight with the robber," Monaco said. "Note the robber's description as you give him the money. Then get away as soon as it is safe and call the police."

ADT Keeps Seniors Safe with Companion Services

26 February, 2009

During the current economic recession, many individuals are trying to save money, especially seniors who may be living on a fixed income. Ensured safety during an emergency, such an immobilizing fall or heart attack, is not something that can be compromised. ADT’s affordable Companion Services have seniors in mind.

ADT’s Companion Services include 24-hour monitoring, which ensures that help will be available during any emergency. Not only is this service affordable, but it is easy to use. The intercom, conveniently located on the control panel, allows the senior to communicate directly with an ADT dispatcher 24/7. The microphone is highly sensitive, allowing communication from up to 75 feet away. This is an important feature in the event of an immobilizing injury or fall.

For added safety, ADT provides seniors with a discrete device that can be worn as a necklace or wristband, allowing them to call for help with the push of a button. The device is waterproof, and can be worn in the shower.

"Companion Services helps seniors feel safe so they can remain independent and live with dignity in their own homes," stated ADT marketing manager, Anndee Soderberg. "Families and friends can rest assured knowing help is just a button push away when a senior needs assistance."

ADT’s safety-trained professionals understand the specific needs of each individual. With a Personal Emergency Response System (PERS), such as ADT’s Companion Services, seniors can receive the help they need during any emergency.

"Although I didn't think I needed it, my daughter-in-law insisted. She even offered to pay for it," said St. Petersburg resident Mona Feld. "Once I knew how much it meant to them that I have this security, I got it and I'm very happy."
