Thief Leaves Shoe Behind

6 July, 2009

In Howell, MI, Anthony O’Connor has pleaded guilty for conspiring to commit second-degree home invasion and attempting first-degree home invasion in Brighton. O’Connor reportedly left his shoe behind while trying to break into his cousin’s home. After receiving his sentence on August 13th, he may serve up to 15 years in prison.

According to local authorities, O’Connor and an accomplice named Joshua Ryan Moran knocked on the victim’s door with the intention of breaking in. When the victim responded “who is it,” the suspects fled the scene. A preliminary examination on July 8th will determine whether or not there is enough evidence (the shoe?) for O’Connor to be charged further.

Break-ins are often committed by acquaintances – that is why it is important to be extra cautious. In this case, a teenager was plotting to burglarize the home of his own family member. Protect yourself with affordable home security equipment, and avoid loss! What if the victim hadn’t been home? A monitored alarm would have been a great way of catching the teenagers red-handed.

Oyster Bay Gets ADT

1 July, 2009

ADT is helping the Long Island town of Oyster Bay keep its residents safe by installing security systems that feature video surveillance cameras. These systems will be utilized in areas that are susceptible to crime, and seek to help the town better-manage its resources. Parks, beaches and other public areas will be under 24-hour surveillance by ADT Security Systems. Wireless technology will be used to monitor isolated areas of Oyster Bay, including John Burns Town Park and Tobay Beach. By utilizing wireless technology, as opposed to wired systems, the city of Oyster Bay will be able to save money while keeping its nearly 300,000 residents and frequent visitors safe. Over 50,000 individuals visit Oyster Bay’s beaches daily during summer months.

ADT monitored equipment will keep a watchful eye several of the waterfront community’s 183 parks and seven beaches. America’s #1 security provider, ADT, began working with New York State as an approved contractor more than five years ago.

Retail Theft Rates are Up

18 June, 2009

Do you own a business? Recent studies suggest that retail crime rates - including employee theft, shoplifting, vendor fraud and administrative error - have increased, following a six-year low. With a funding grant from ADT Security Services, the University of Florida conducted a National Retail Security Survey (NRSS). After a six-year decline in retail crime, rates are back on the rise.

What factors are contributing to these numbers? Although there is no evidence to suggest that a weak economy directly relates to increased criminal activity, the economy does impact how employers operate their businesses. Employee cutbacks create an 'opportunistic environment' for shoplifters - both from within the store, and from without. With less supervision, it is easy to get away with petty crimes.

You can prevent loss. If you don't currently have a security system, now is the perfect time to invest in one. Monthly prices are very reasonable, and if you consider how much money you may save by preventing theft - the alarm system practically pays for itself! For added security, include surveillance cameras, and catch criminals in the act.
