Tough Economic Times

16 June, 2009

Yesterday, ADT Security Services announced that it has developed new products and services to help businesses prevent increased retail theft during this tough economic period. It is no surprise that crime rates increase during recessions. That is why ADT seeks to help retailers better-manage their businesses. ADT's products and services can reduce the risk of theft, allowing retailers to increase profits by decreasing loss. Clarity, Sensormatic Safers, IntelliVid and Jammer detection software are among the latest ADT solutions for retailers.

"ADT provides security for more than 80 percent of the top 200 global retailers and we understand the importance of providing protection and value, especially at this challenging time, for our customers," said Jeff Bean, Vice President, Retail Sales and Operations for ADT. "We strive to bring retailers products that will not only help with loss prevention and theft, but will also provide them with true business intelligence and overall operational benefits."

Louisiana Woman Becomes a Burglary Victim

9 June, 2009

During tough economic periods, crime rates tend to increase. Last Saturday, a 78-year-old woman in Kenner, Louisiana became the victim of a violent crime when two men entered her home by force. According to the Kenner Police Department, Joshua Veal and Rene Netter broke into the woman's home, and threatened to kill her if she didn't cooperate. The men stabbed her with a 3-foot crowbar, rifled through her home, and fled the scene with her purse.

If the woman would have had a home alarm system, would this scenario have played out differently? With a security system installed, the intruders would not have been able to enter her home unnoticed. ADT home alarms produce loud sirens, which would have alerted the woman's neighbors to the potential danger.

When I read this story, I felt compelled to protect myself against unforeseen dangers. Although my budget is tight, I found a home security system that offered great protection for a low price.

ADT Cuts Crime on San Antonio Campus

27 May, 2009

Boca Raton-based ADT Security Systems has aided the University of Texas at San Antonio in securing three of its largest parking lots by installing video surveillance equipment. ADT provided UTSA with cameras, which transmit content over a wireless mesh system. This installation can monitor a 600-space parking lot, which is located approximately .25 mile from UTSA's main campus.

According to UTSA campus police, the installation of ADT Security Systems equipment has already helped solve several auto theft cases and break-ins. Operational since 2007, the success of ADT's wireless mesh system has led the UTSA to extend video surveillance service to two additional campus parking lots.

Because UTSA's 600-space parking lot is in a remote location, ADT utilized a wireless mesh system. This technology offers an affordable, reliable means of broadcasting security video to the UTSA campus police office.

"The wireless system was the most effective way to get data from such a far-away area without the cost and environmental impact of trenching associated with a wired system," said Daniel Pena, UTSA Assistant Police Chief.

According to Pena, campus police and ADT technicians have tweaked the camera system, ensuring that it captures video from the parking lot's most critical areas. This security tactic has made the video surveillance system more efficient, thus leading to a reduced crime rate on the UTSA campus.

The positioning of the security equipment allows campus police to monitor cars as they enter and exit the university's largest parking lot. Security personnel are trained to identify suspicious activity, such as people loitering near parked cars. ADT camera systems provide zoom features, allowing security personnel to easily identify potential crime suspects and license plate numbers.
