Home alarm systems featuring 2-way voice service offer a fast, efficient communication solution during emergencies. If you suspect a burglary in progress, have experienced an immobilizing fall, or need emergency assistance for any reason – help is available 24 hours a day. Feeling secure in your home is important, but how can you be safe when you’re away?
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has released helpful tips for communication during an emergency. These suggestions are especially beneficial for individuals without home security systems, and for anyone who experiences an emergency outside of the home.
• If dialing 911 from a cell phone, limit the length of the call to save battery power.
• No service? Try an SMS text message, as they may go through when calls cannot.
• Wait 10 seconds in between dialing numbers, as too much data can ‘clog’ the network.
• Maintain a list of emergency contacts, and keep a copy in your home and car.
• Create a family plan – designate an emergency contact that does not live in your area.
